About Discount Djembes
Discount Djembes is the largest seller and supplier of overstock djembe drums and other percussion products online in the world. We have exclusive contracts with our partners for their overstock and blemished merchandise, providing us access to thousands of drums available for immediate shipment.
All of the drums on our site are handmade. While this is what makes these drums so amazing, inevitably hand-made products will have some imperfections. When the carvers are completely finished building the drums they are graded as #1 and #2 grade, based on the level of these imperfections. The #1 grade are sold to music shops and in various online venues. But what do they do with all those #2’s? This can be a potentially wasteful characteristic of hand made products if these carvers or importers don’t have access to the proper channels to disperse of their overstock.
That’s where we come in. We provide the bridge between consumer and supplier, ensuring that budget-minded players and blemish-friendly players have access to these overstock drums and percussion products at incredible, almost unheard of prices.
Here’s how it works. All the drums listed on the site are broken down into price ranges. From there, each individual drum is categorized within three categories: Blemished/Discount, Overstock, and Cracked.
Blemished/Discount
Drums under this category have minor cosmetic blemishes. Most of the drums on this site fall under this category. The blemishes can consist of wood knots, areas filled in with wood filler and stained over, scratches, stains on the skin, small dents in the wood, symmetry irregularities particularly at the bearing edge, non-intrusive fissures, translucent spotted skins, size variances that don’t meet the exact original size dimension criteria, etc. etc., but nothing so major as to affect the overall performance of the drum. Drums in this category are generally all great performing drums for the price, and are a great opportunity for players who plan to lug their drum around from place to place and beat it up anyway. You may not even notice the blemishes in some cases.
Used Discount
Drums under this category have been traded to us by past customers. All are great performing drums and each drum pictured in this category is the exact drum you will receive.
Overstock
Drums under this category are generally discontinued designs or one of a kind prototype carvings that suppliers decided to do away with. In most cases they are of the same quality and condition as drums that are sold to retail music shops etc., but are available exclusively through Discount Djembes at discounted rates (note:occasionally these can have minor blemishes as well).
Cracked
Drums under this category have major cracks and thus are majorly discounted. These cracks can generally be fixed with wood filler or wood glue and then clamped with a duct clamp to hold the crack together while it drys. These are a steal for the project-minded or do it yourself buyer who doesn’t mind the task of repairing a drum to make it sound no worse off for the wear and tear.
